Kristoffer Rostedt – Drums
The group formed in the autumn of 2010 in Malmö, Sweden, when these unique musicians quickly found their interplay and passion in playing. They have since then played on various scenes both as a trio and accompanying different soloists.
“In a well-received set at Ystad’s Scala Theatre, Venkiah mixed elegantly turned vocals with his post-Monk-and-Jarrett pianism to fine effect”
-Michael Tucker, Jazz journal 2014
JVT began playing jazz standards in their own, modern yet traditional interpretations. After a short while the trio went over to playing Venkiah’s originals, which in turn characterize the groups sound with both nordic melancholia and playfulness. Influences vary, with roots both in great classic jazz giants such as Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, as well as more modern musicians like Esbjörn Svensson and Brad Mehldau. The group’s sound is unique wherein the members tackle the music with great response.
The members of John Venkiah Trio have also played with other established Swedish jazz musicians such as Viktoria Tolstoy, Anders Bergkrantz, LaGaylia Frazier, Jan Lundgren, Mathias Landaeus, Thomas Franck, and many more.
